Good Food, Good Friends, Good Beer

November 16th, 2017

This week for lunch, I decided to visit the new Los Tarascos location on Skyland Boulevard. The menu has a wide variety of choices, much like any other Mexican restaurant, however, it also includes many new options and their own twist on classics. I decided to start with my favorite appetizer: chorizo queso dip. They serve their classic white queso topped with spicy chorizo, and it is amazing. For my main course, I decided to do steak and chicken fajitas, another classic Mexican dish. The food was very well done, and even though the selection is pretty basic, the quality is way above average.... Read More

Baumhowers or Bust

November 9th, 2017

This week for dinner I decided to sit down and try Baumhowers Victory Grill, a famous restaurant that got its start in Tuscaloosa. I went on a Wednesday night and truthfully the restaurant was kind of dead, which was surprising to me as they recently reopened after being closed for renovations. However, I am not complaining because we were seated quickly and the staff was very friendly. After looking over the menu, which features a large selection, I decided to start off with an appetizer. Immediately the Gooey Fries caught my eye. Its a platter of curly fries served under a layer of queso blanco... Read More

A Nice Place for Lunch

November 2nd, 2017

Earlier this week, I decided to try Chicken Salad Chick for the first time. I had heard mixed reviews so I didn’t really know what to expect. The menu is extensive and has every kind of chicken salad you could imagine. They also have a decent amount of different soups and salads you can choose from. This is the perfect restaurant to go to if you want fast food prices, but a nice, clean, sit-down atmosphere. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a side of potato soup. The regular chicken salad, dubbed “Classic Carol,” is delicious, and I had it served on a croissant, and it was easily the... Read More

Casual Dining in the heart of Tuscaloosa

October 26th, 2017

The first thing people think of when they think of Bistro 301, is the unique building and location. Located in the old Tuscaloosa train station building, the restaurant has an atmosphere and appeal that is unmatched in Tuscaloosa. In addition to its uncommon look, Bistro 301 has the great food to back it up. I recently sat down for dinner there and was surprised by the lack of options. The menu only has a few soup and salad options, and about five entree options. Despite the limited options, they all sounded delicious, and I decided on the Wienerschnitzel, which is basically a breaded veal cutlet.... Read More

A Place That Nobody Ever Talks About

October 19th, 2017

In the four years that I have been attending the University of Alabama, I have seen the city of Tuscaloosa rapidly expand. Being as big of a college town as it is, the nightlife and bar scene can be just as difficult as trying to learn a year’s worth of work the day before an exam. Tuscaloosa, Alabama has a bar for every type of person. If you’re looking for more of a big city nightclub, with live DJ’s and strobe lights everywhere, Rounders is the place to be. If the nightclub vibe isn’t your thing and you seek a more traditional bar feel, then The Houndstooth is your place... Read More
